2 Reasons Wearing Shoes May Be Detrimental

Posted by David Gelfand

UK based publication Express recently published an article that touches on the research done into shoes and how they may affect a child’s foot development.

It’s hard to imagine life without our shoes. Since a very early age, we’ve been taught that shoes are meant to protect our feet and to be worn whenever going outside. It’s become second nature to grab for your shoes before going anywhere (even indoors!). But have you ever considered the possible negative side effects of wearing shoes? After all, it’s worth considering that, as newborns, we’re not born with any shoes on our feet.

Summer – The Earthing Season

Posted by David Gelfand

Jul 28, 2014 10:00:00 AM

Where I live, summer is without a doubt the most coveted time of the year. With a brutal nine month winter behind us, there’s absolutely nothing we yearn for more than some sunshine, warmth, and the sight of the sprouting earth.

Once the summer season fully rolls around (at least here), we absolutely have to take advantage of it while it lasts. Two to three months of cool, carefree vibes in the summer sun can fly by – trust me!

Carol’s Introduction to Juil and Earthing Products

1.) How did you first hear about Juil?

My husband is always looking for unique, thoughtful gifts for me. He subscribed to a year-long gift package from Yuzen.  My first of 4 seasonal boxes arrived, containing samples of many lovely, "earthy" products, including a coupon for your shoes.  I went to your site, liked what I saw and read, and ordered a pair!

2.) Before Juil, had you ever heard of the concept of grounding/earthing?

Grounding and Yoga – A Health-Inspired Lifestyle

Posted by David Gelfand

Whether you’re at your yoga class or even in the classroom, it’s not uncommon to hear someone talk about “getting grounded.” But what does that really mean?

In practice, grounding is a three part mechanism – 1) It’s a physical connection we need to the earth, 2) It’s a mental shift from being out-of-focus to centered and in-the-moment, and 3) It’s whatever brings your mind and body to be at ease!

Barefoot Shoes vs. Earthing Shoes – How are they Different?

Posted by David Gelfand

There’s a barefoot movement going on and it’s all around us! Everywhere you go, people are walking, running, and dancing barefoot. Some of the reasons seem obvious, such as the calm feelings that we get and the ability to free our minds. You suddenly feel young again! These reasons don’t appear to be scientific and, in reality, they shouldn’t be. Going barefoot is about as natural as it gets and it’s a feeling that we all can appreciate.

Earthing - #3 Spa and Wellness Trend

Posted by David Gelfand

Jun 25, 2014 10:00:00 AM

Rooting oneself to the earth is a core aspect of many wellness trends and patterns. For example, the yoga practice centralizes the importance of the root chakra. Poses such as Bridge and Mountain Pose are meant to ground you (and your root chakra) in the present moment and establish a firm connection with the earth. Even savasana after an exhausting yoga session, when done on the earth’s surface, is an example of lying fully connected to the earth.

The idea of touching the earth, being in touch with the earth’s surface, and taking in the earth’s surrounding  powers has been around for ages. However today, more than ever before, we are beginning to realize the true importance and power that the earth has.

To make you look sharp and feel comfortable, we make sure never to stray away from our roots and what makes us unique. Those “dots” in our footwear are that satisfaction for something fresh – something that will make you feel whole and balanced. They’re based on a concept known as grounding, or “connecting” as we call it.

5 Reasons Being Outside is Good For You

Posted by David Gelfand

Jun 11, 2014 11:50:00 AM

This past weekend I awoke with a foggy mind, dazed thoughts, and an odd soreness in my back – something that wasn’t there the night before. For a moment, I attributed the symptoms to an allergy, perhaps, as the seasons seem to be shifting. Then I remembered, I have no allergies…I was at a loss.

I stumbled out of bed, washed my face, brushed my teeth, and marched downstairs. In what likely seemed like a delusional stupor, I entered the kitchen, faced the fridge and began to stare. I wasn’t necessarily hungry, nor thirsty. But it seemed a natural place to begin.

Something wasn’t right. I needed a boost. I needed to be awakened and magnified internally. So I decided to step outside. The sun was shining, the yard freshly groomed, butterflies flickering not more than a foot above ground. I slipped off my sandals and began down the porch before finally making contact with the grass. It was in that moment that something changed dramatically – my daze disappeared, fogginess diminished, and soreness subsided. I was overwhelmed by a soothing and awakening sensation.

What Makes Earthing Shoes Unique?

Posted by David Gelfand

Jun 4, 2014 3:56:00 PM

It’s something we do each and every day. We wake up, shower, make our breakfast, and get ready for the day ahead. Before rushing out the door, though, we throw on our shoes (unless you’re lucky enough to work barefoot and/or on a beach!)

Barefoot History

Posted by David Gelfand

May 28, 2014 1:38:00 PM

Many years before the advent of technology, insulated homes, and wire-filled offices, people lived and worked in much more agrarian settings. Life was spent both working on the land and in harmony with it. People often slept directly on the ground, or merely elevated slightly using natural substances such as grass. When walking, shoes used to be made with much more minimalism – with not much more than a thin, leather sole between the foot and the earth.
