“I live in Juil sandals, because as a yoga teacher, the connection through the feet to the earth is very important.” ~Shiva Rea

What do you never leave the house without?
Where is your favorite place to sport Juil footwear? And what have your experiences been?!
I live in Juil sandals, because as a yoga teacher, the connection through the feet to the earth is very important. Wearing Juil sandals is the next best thing to being barefoot. So when we are on retreat in charged places, like the volcanic island of Santorini, Juil sandals are perfect because they are elegant, travel well, and connect me to the current of the power spots of the world.
What are the first three words that come to your mind
when someone says: “grounded” or “connected?”
We want to know what your typical morning looks like!
I try to rise with the sun. I am up around 5:30 or 6, and make sure my teenage son is getting up and getting ready for school. I follow Ayurvedic dinacharya (daily routine), which includes hydration, self-massage with simple oils, dry brush, and more. Then I like to meditate in front of my altar, seeing the sunrise coming through. I make breakfast for my family. I take my son to school in my solar powered electric car, and begin the day.
What is one mantra that is like a remedy for your soul?
Remembering that our essence (aham) is love (prema).
How do you channel your inner 5 year old?
I get together with other 5 year olds! I go to the beach.
Tell us one fun fact about yourself.
I lived with a 9-foot 6-year-old boa constrictor snake who taught us about the power of slow movement and being present.
What is your favorite pose to teach in your classes? And why?
I love offering any of the 40 namaskars of Prana Flow because it brings collective unity and flow.
If you’re not on a yoga mat, where can we find you?
You will find me writing, kayaking, cycling, and like the other moms in the world, cooking, cleaning, and connecting with my community.
Last but not least, you have to fill us in on your favorite Juil style and color!
The Brio Gold – the one we created to support the Global Mala Project.
